This really is an awesome sport.  It's a unique sport, that's for sure, but it will help you to become a better athlete.  I have improved my rockclimbing skills just through riding.   It builds up your core muscles and helps improve cardiovascular conditioning immensely.  You will sweat like you have never sweat before, but you will be rewarded for your efforts.  You're doing something challenging that most people shy away from it because they think they can't ride a unicycle. Anyone can ride a unicycle.  It just takes some time and a commitment on your part to pursue it.  The hardest part is riding the first 25 feet in a line.  This can be done on average, between 14 - 16 hours.  Some people do this in one week or like me, learned over a one month period by practicing for about 45 minutes at a time.

I can give you advice on "where" to start.  Entry level Mountain Unicycles start at over $200.00, but a good mid range model is $330.00.  "High end" MUnis can run over $1,500.00.  However, the midrange MUni is a great "bang for the buck". I recommend the KH Muni as seen here http://www.unicycle.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=1271

My hopes for this website, are that it will help promote the sport.  Right now, there are only a few MUni riders in the area and I hope this site helps that number to grow.  One rider is in Venice, another in Pasadena, and I am in West Hills.  There is a small group of riders numbering about 8 in Santa Barbara.  They ride quite frequently.  I can put you in touch with them.

Unfortunately,  a growing family that comes with growing responsibilities has limited my riding, so I can't get out as much as I would like.  However, feel free to contact me anyway if you wish.
